2nd Annual Symposium of the Biomaterials Society of South Africa, University of the Witwatersrand, November 2007

Our Mission

To develop and raise the profile of biomaterials research in South Africa, by establishing an industry-academia-science council-clinical network that will stimulate collaboration in this rapidly growing field, ultimately turning biomaterials research into viable products and applications, and generating further research investment in the field.

Our Objectives

• To encourage, foster, promote and develop research, progress and information concerning the science of biomaterials and initiate research collaborations with researchers from various universities, science councils and industry in the field of biomaterials.
• To promote the propagation of scientific information through publications and meetings.
• To co-operate with other scientific organizations, governmental and private bodies, both national and international, in order to establish a Center for Biomaterials in South Africa.
• To encourage progress in the field of biomaterials in all its aspects, including research, teaching and clinical applications, as well as to foster any other activity pertinent thereto.
